Are you one of the millions of Americans who have resolved to begin exercising and improving your overall health? The messages encouraging us to make lifestyle changes are everywhere, but many of us just do not know where to start.

Walk Kansas is a team-based program that will help you and others lead a healthier life by being more active, making better nutrition choices, and learning positive ways to deal with stress. Who can’t use these benefits?

Co-workers, family members, friends and neighbors form teams of no more than six people. Each team will choose a challenge to work toward during the 8 week program. Each team member will strive to exercise a minimum of 150 minutes per week (in line with recommendations from the American Heart Association). Every 15 minutes exercised by a team member equals 1 Walk Kansas mile. When each team member meets the 150 minute per week goal, it totals 423 Walk Kansas miles, equal to the distance across Kansas.

To answer a few frequently asked questions:
– Do I have to exercise with my teammates? No. Exercise can be done individually. You will then report your minutes of activity to your team captain each week.
– Do team members have to live within the Midway District? No. We frequently have teams with members that live outside of either Ellsworth or Russell County. We even have teams with members from other states; a group of siblings or former college roommates that want to participate ‘together.’
